CLOSE TO 100 ROADS COMPLETE UNDER THE RIP AND REMAKE PROGRAMME, NEXT SET OF ROADS IN PROGRESS

Fiji Roads Authority (FRA) has completed phase one of major road improvement works on close to 100 roads in the Central, Northern and Western Division under the Rip and Remake programme in the last 12 months.

FRA Acting Chief Executive Officer Kamal Prasad says the implemented roadworks have significantly improved the level of service of existing 400 lane kilometres of sealed roads directly contributing to the improved road user safety and traffic flow.

“However, it has been brought to FRA’s attention that the drivers are over speeding on these improved sections of roads endangering their lives and the lives of other road users.  FRA is pleading to drivers to follow the posted road speeds so that everyone can safely make to their destination by road,” Mr Prasad said.

He said they are now working on the next set of 100 roads under the programme. The works will progress in a similar fashion and we expect to surpass the achievements of the last 12 months.

“Although these works do not require a full closure of roads, but motorists must allow for momentary closure in their plan when using these active sites. Additionally, drivers are requested to adhere to the speed limits and observe all road signs through the worksites to ensure the safety of other motorists and workmen alike.”

Mr Prasad is also reiterating to motorists to drive safely on the new road surfaces’.

The phase two of the major works entails applying another layer of macadam to the sections of the roads that had been successfully resurfaced in the phase one works.
