Critical Bridges Replacement Programme
- FRA has successfully replaced seven critical bridges in the Western Division and three in the Central Division. The following bridges are complete and fully accessible to the public.

The FRA aims to build resilient infrastructure that improves access to essential services and facilities. These improvements will continue to bring about economic and socio-economic advancements in addition to making our infrastructure resilient.
These bridges were initially funded by the Fiji Government, however this project is now being fully funded by Australian Infrastructure Financing Facility for the Pacific (AIFFP) through a grant reimbursement.
Major Capital Projects
The project was is completed. This project was delayed due to significant change in the design works in order to meet climate resilience guideline in the contract; the whole pavement was raised above sea level. Importantly, the project now features dedicated bicycle lanes, improved pedestrian safety measures, and increased parking facilities, reflecting our commitment to sustainable urban development.
Additionally, the project incorporates enhanced drainage systems to address flooding issues and provides large bus shelters to accommodate school pupils—features that were not part of the original concept plan but were identified as vital during stakeholder consultations.

The original project was 23 km. However, there was an additional 3 km extension from Nawai to Yako. The final completed length is 26km. The road improvement project brings various benefits to the community. Firstly, it aims to reduce congestion by widening the carriageway and upgrading intersections, allowing for smoother traffic flow. Additionally, the project focuses on improving pavement strength, resulting in better ride quality for motorists. Moreover, road safety is enhanced through various measures, ensuring a safer environment for both drivers and pedestrians. The project also prioritizes the quality of life by incorporating climate-resilient infrastructure, which can withstand extreme weather events and promote sustainability. Pedestrians are not forgotten, as improved crossing facilities and lighting are implemented to enhance their safety and convenience. Furthermore, the project includes new bus bays and shelters, improving bus facilities, and encouraging the use of public transportation. Lastly, the road improvement project has the potential to promote regional economic growth by attracting businesses and creating job opportunities.

Nanise Nasikeli, 42 says the new Queens Road Upgrading Project (QRUP) has brought about many positive changes in their community, and one of them is the opportunity to sell tea, coffee, parcelled food and pastries on the roadside along Namada Village in Sigatoka.

The KRUP A – Kings Road Upgrade Project is taking place between Vitawa and Vadravadra. The project commenced on 10th June 2021 and is now complete. The project aims to benefit the community by improving pavement strength, enhancing ride quality, ensuring road safety, providing climate-resilient infrastructure, improving pedestrian crossing facilities and lighting, upgrading bus facilities, and promoting regional economic growth and social benefits. This project is under the Transport Infrastructure Investment Sector Project funded by the ADB /WB and the Fiji Government.

The Site comprises the existing Kings Roads between Tobu to Wailotua. The project is now complete with minor ongoing improvements. Both KRUP projects bring a range of significant improvements for road users and the community. The road features improved pavement strength and ride quality, ensuring a smoother and more comfortable experience for all. Safety has been a top priority, with enhanced road safety measures and resilient access for users. Pedestrian crossing facilities and lighting have also been upgraded, enhancing safety and convenience for pedestrians. Additionally, the road now boasts improved bus facilities, including new bus bays and shelters. Overall, this project promotes regional economic growth and social benefits for the community. The SARUP 2 – Suva Road Upgrading Project Package C, located on Foster Road. The project commenced on 18th February 2022. The project will benefit the community through improved road safety, reduced congestion, improved pavement quality, climate resilience, enhanced pedestrian facilities, improved bus facilities, and promoting regional economic growth and social benefits. This project is under the Transport Infrastructure Investment Sector Project funded by the ADB /WB and the Fiji Government.
