PROLONGED RAINFALL RESULTS IN SEVERE DAMAGE TO THE HIGHWAY NETWORK, EXERCISE CAUTION
March 19, 2020A flood alert remains in force for low lying areas as such, the Fiji Roads Authority (FRA) is advising members of the public, especially motorists to please keep a safe following distance in order to prevent accidents on wet and slippery roads and avoid driving into flooded areas.
Several roads are currently affected in the Central, Western and Northern Division due to surface flooding caused by the heavy rain that occurred last night and during today’s early morning hours.
The wet road network and continuous rain experienced in the past few days is impeding our contractors’ ability to carry our repair work on roads.
We are asking motorists to please drive to the conditions, have patience as we cannot grade wet roads, and we cannot place equipment such as rollers on graders on affected roads as it will make the situation worse. We will start repair works as soon as practical.
Please plan your route carefully. Members of the public can call the FRA on toll free number 5720 shall they have any queries.
