Works on Nakorotari Crossing in Labasa is nearing completion
The crossing is located on the Labasa River, approximately 12Km south east of Labasa Town in the Province of Macuata.
Fiji Roads Authority Chief Executive Officer Jonathan Moore says the crossing is an important link over the Labasa River between Nakorotari Road to Siberia Road, giving a resilient of the river.
He said the Nakorotari Crossing was designed for a 100-year design, 7.32m wide, allowing for 2 x 2.9m travel lane and 1.5m wide footpath.
“The structure is piled and made up of precast concrete box cells, which were easily erected once the concrete slab had reached the required strength to take the load. The inverted U shaped box panels are sitting in the rebate of the slab and it is also bolted down with stainless steel brackets and bolts. Fin walls on the upstream are provided to trap any river debris which can be easily removed following major storms.”
All works are anticipated to be completed by December, weather permitting.
