Road Infrastructure Works A Priority

The Fiji Roads Authority (FRA) recognizes the attention required to facilitate urgent road infrastructure works around Fiji. Sections of road infrastructure has been severely impacted after the continuous rainfall experienced around the country and the weather conditions have also posed as a significant challenge for FRA to carry out necessary road infrastructure works.

FRA is endeavoring to accelerate immediate restoration of road infrastructure that has been affected and make roads accessible to all. As FRA continues the restoration programme, the Authority is also assessing and identifying resilient solutions for severely impacted road infrastructure.

Potholes are a major recurring issue and FRA is working around the clock to reinforce resources and manpower to get the road network to serviceable levels. More strategic plans are been drawn up to have a pothole reduction programme to minimize the pothole runs and reoccurrence. The introduction of resurfacing via a mill and fill treatment of key roads will be facilitated.

Furthermore, FRA is working with key stakeholders per area, councils and the provinces to address the drainage reticulation system. FRA reiterates the importance of proper household waste disposal as per our media release dated 28 March 2024 titled “Poor waste management a recurring issue”, highlighting the impact of improper waste disposal on drainage and waterways.

Bus routes are of top priority, especially in Rural Areas which have been drastically impacted by the high intensity rainfall (last 3 months). Due to the emergency situation of accelerating restoration works on our damaged roading infrastructure across the country, FRA will engage more contractors and resources to rapidly address these routes to restore to proper serviceable levels.
