
RISK OF FURTHER FLOODING, REMAIN VIGILANT: PRASAD

SITUATION REPORT- 4PM
January 10, 2022Fiji Roads Authority (FRA) wishes to advise members of the public regarding the following road closures in the Northern Division due to flooding;
- Due to the continuous downpour from last night, our Main Supply Route (MSR) between Labasa Town and Seaqaqa were closed this morning at Qelewaqa Flat including the Wainikoro Road between Labasa Town towards Malau at Vuniika Flat due to flooding.
- Transinsular Road between Seaqaqa and Savusavu were also reduced to single lane access at Lomaloma S Bend due to a landslide.
- Seaqaqa towards Nabouwalu including Rabi and Taveuni are serviceable.
- Both sealed and unsealed bus routes have been severely affected around Vanua Levu this morning due to flooding and there were no bus services around Vanua Levu today.
Due to flooding, all Jetties and access to major towns are serviceable for heavy vehicles only and in some areas there is a reduced road width:
- Nabouwalu Jetty to Savusavu, Natua and Labasa Town
- Savusavu Jetty to Savusavu, Natua, Labasa & even to Nabouwalu
- Taveuni Jetty to Naqara CBD
- Rabi Jetty to Nuku Council Office/Rabi Health Center
- Saqani Jetty for passengers only
Airports and access to towns are accessible as of this morning from:
- Labasa Airport to Labasa Town through Naduna Road (towards Wailevu Village) and also through Nakama crossing and Nakorotari Road.
- Savusavu Airport towards Savusavu Town
- Taveuni Airport towards Naqara CBD in Taveuni
FRA Chief Executive Officer Kamal Prasad is advising motorists not to drive into water of unknown depth and current as this can be life threatening.
“Please find alternative routes where possible and take extra caution. We are urging the public to remain vigilant, tune into the local radio and listen to the advice of the emergency services,” Mr Prasad said.
He said several roads were being monitored for closure due to high levels of flood water and they will continue to issue alerts and warnings as required.
