EMERGENCY WEIGHT RESTRICTION ON NADARIVATU ROAD
February 23, 202106 February 2021
Fiji Roads Authority (FRA) would like to advise members of the public to please expect at least 90 minutes’ peak hour delay on the Suva Nausori corridor due to road rehabilitation works.
FRA is unable to complete work on Nokonoko Road, Grantham Road and Tubou Road due to the wet weather conditions. Motorists are asked to plan their journey considering the delay.
FRA is working day and night to complete the much needed work at the earliest opportunity and not wasting taxpayer fund on substandard workmanship. These delays will continue till end of April 2021 due to the forecasted rain.
The FRA’s plan to manoeuvre after cyclone or flood event passes us is to prioritize the Main Supply Route ahead of secondary roads and then remainder of tributary roads.
FRA inspectors visit all roads in this sequence. I hope this will make some sense as to why some roads are open to all traffic and remainder aren’t. I understand that after such events, people don’t have access to food or cash and they need to travel to town to gather these.
For the FRA, we have to be absolutely sure that the cars, vans, buses and trucks can traverse the road before we allow movement. If not the vehicle occupants may be stranded or worse, not return home in the state they left home. We don’t intend to take this risk.
Please bear with us and report your road issues to FRA on toll free number 5720.
