Fiji Roads Authority maintenance contractors\u2019 have started remedial work to address pothole sections of the road network exposed by the recent wet weather.<\/p>\n
\u201cAs a priority, road crews have started work on Queens and Kings Road and will continue into other main transport routes or collector and local urban roads as we call them\u201d says FRA Maintenance Works Manager, Dale Nicholls.<\/p>\n
\u201cFRA is into year 3 of a 7-10 year recovery programme to catch up on overdue maintenance so potholes will continue to appear on our roads after wet spells for a while yet. But the good news is that the problem is reducing month by month as more and more roads are resealed or fully reconstructed. In the past 2 years we addressed over 300km of sealed road and we estimate there is 700km or so of outstanding sealed roads requiring major work. In the meantime our contractors will programme and carry out the pothole repair work with extra effort put in following prolonged periods of rain\u201d says Mr Nicholls.<\/p>\n
Road rehabilitation work for 2015 is well underway across all divisions with over 150km of resealing and reconstruction programmed for this year.
