{"id":4259,"date":"2018-10-01T23:38:42","date_gmt":"2018-10-01T23:38:42","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.fijiroads.org\/?p=4259"},"modified":"2018-10-01T23:38:42","modified_gmt":"2018-10-01T23:38:42","slug":"pedestrian-access-safety-continues-improve","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.fijiroads.org\/index.php\/2018\/10\/01\/pedestrian-access-safety-continues-improve\/","title":{"rendered":"PEDESTRIAN ACCESS AND SAFETY CONTINUES TO IMPROVE"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>2 October 2018<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Fiji Roads Authority (FRA) is committed to public safety both on and off the roads, for motorists and pedestrians alike.<\/p>\n<p>FRA General Manager- Central Aram Goes says the recent completion of the Kalabu Bridge walkway will improve safety and access for people that were previously required to cross on the bridge deck.<\/p>\n<p>The works included formation and setting of abutment foundations, installation of steel beams, timber decking with secure safety handrails.\u00a0 The works took four weeks to complete.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cTransportation studies conducted by the Ministry of Transport has found that 70 percent of people\u2019s movement in Fiji are still on foot\u201d said Mr Goes.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIn response to this, the FRA has an extensive Footpath Program for 2018\/2019 across Viti Levu and Vanua Levu including Adi Lady Davila Rd, Wainibuku Rd, Savusavu Town and Ba Town Roads just to name a few\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>As well as these footpath projects, the FRA is always looking to include new footpaths in many of the road upgrade projects where this has safety benefits.<\/p>\n<p>Mr Goes explained the current upgrade work in progress on Queens Road, by the Navua Hospital, will see provision of new footpaths and designated safe pedestrian crossing points.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThese works will involve reconstruction of the aged and deteriorated road pavements with new gravel layers, cement stabilisation and new seal.\u00a0 The project includes widening near the Navua Hospital entrance for a right turn bay, improving the safe access into the Hospital and no obstructions for traffic passing along Queens Road.<\/p>\n<p>In addition, the FRA is lighting up Fiji with new streetlight installations across the nation, giving further safety and security to the people of Fiji.<\/p>\n<p>Read Here: <a href=\"https:\/\/www.fijiroads.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/10\/PEDESTRIAN-ACCESS-AND-SAFETY-CONTINUES-TO-IMPROVE.pdf\">PEDESTRIAN ACCESS AND SAFETY CONTINUES TO IMPROVE<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>&nbsp; 2 October 2018 Fiji Roads Authority (FRA) is committed to public safety both on and off the roads, for motorists and pedestrians alike.
