Fiji Roads Authority (FRA) has completed roadworks on various sections in Naitasiri improving access and safety for thousands.<\/p>\n

FRA General Manager Central Division Aram Goes says these sites were programmed for upgrade works to provide more reliable all-weather access and improve journey times to these populated and frequently travelled communities in the Naitasiri Province.<\/p>\n

\u201cThese works targeted specific hill sections that were difficult to access by buses, along with school frontages and several surrounding villages to treat dust nuisance, improving the living conditions and overall wellbeing of these communities.\u201d<\/p>\n

He said in total 4.3km of new sealed road was constructed.<\/p>\n

\u201cThese unsealed sections of road were first widened, reshaped and properly drained.\u00a0 Then we rebuilt these roads with new gravel materials and cement stabilised this to strengthen the pavement structure. A two coat seal was applied to the stabilised pavement to provide water proofing, provide good traction for vehicles and eliminate dust.\u201d<\/p>\n

Mr Goes said drainage works involved improving existing under-road culverts and driveway drainage systems to properly divert the road surface run-off away from the road carriageway.<\/p>\n

\u201cSignificant rock protection works were also carried out to protect roadside embankments from flood damage in locations where larger waterways cross under the road.\u201d<\/p>\n

Sites on Wailoa Road:<\/strong><\/p>\n

Wailoa Road Traction Seal 1<\/u><\/p>\n

The site is situated on opposite ends of the Waimalua Crossing along Wailoa Road. The total length of the site was 480m.<\/p>\n

Wailoa Road, Naivucini Village Seal Extension<\/u><\/p>\n

The site covered the road length within the Navucini Village boundary up till the Navucini Crossing. The total length of the site was 840m.<\/p>\n

Wailoa Road Traction Seal 2<\/u><\/p>\n

The site is located past Nadovu Village and was programmed for upgrade works due to the deteriorated condition of the old, existing traction seal surface and the very steep gradient which at times restricted buses from reaching their destinations during very wet weather. The total length of the site was 500m.<\/p>\n

Sites on Nabukaluka Delailasakau Road:<\/strong><\/p>\n

Nabukaluka Road Traction Seal 1<\/u><\/p>\n

The site was an old traction seal site which had badly deteriorated beyond recognition over the years. The total length of the site was 1.115km.<\/p>\n

Nabukaluka Road Traction Seal 2<\/u><\/p>\n

The site was an old traction seal site which had also badly deteriorated over the years. The total length of the site was 290m.<\/p>\n

Naivurevure Village, School and Health Access<\/u><\/p>\n

The total length of the site was 1.1km which included Naivurevure Village, Waidina Secondary School and Naivurevure Primary School frontages.<\/p>\n

\u201cThese upgraded road surfaces will significantly assist buses and vehicles ascend and descend these steep sections of road during all weather conditions,\u201d Mr Goes said.<\/p>\n

This is part of the FRA 2017\/2018 Renewals Program by the Maintenance Works Department.<\/p>\n
