Fiji Roads Authority (FRA) has installed 25 Solar Streetlights at the Nailaga Village in Ba.<\/p>\n

Acting General Manager Electrical Musheer Ilahi Khan says the FRA has invested in a system that collects and stores the energy from the sun and uses it to light up a section of its arterial road through the Nailaga Village.<\/p>\n

\u201cFiji is a new regional leader in the adaptation of sustainable energy solutions that help protect and preserve the environment and due to the potential vulnerability to cyclones and the rise in sea levels, the Government of Fiji has adopted a prominent role in the Pacific Island initiatives to address climate change issues.\u201d<\/p>\n

He said the 25 Orca Vertex\u00ae solar lighting system for Nailaga village has been designed in Australia utilising NASA\u2019s solar insolation data for Fiji and customised to meet V5 street lighting standard.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis standalone system has been specifically designed to provide up to 13 hours of operation with 56 hours (4.3days) autonomy.\u201d<\/p>\n

The Energy Management Control System has been set to operate the twenty five 60watts LED street lights at 100 percent from dusk till dawn.<\/p>\n

Mr Khan said the benefits of solar energy towards the environment were measurable and together for each year of operation these 25 solar streetlights would use 6,570kWh of energy from the sun. It would also:<\/p>\n
