Roadworks on Kimberly Street in Suva is now complete and open to traffic.<\/p>\n

Fiji Roads Authority (FRA) General Manager Network Operations and Maintenance Aram Goes says Kimberly Street had badly failed pavements which required extensive full-width repairs as a method of treatment.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis was due to the accelerated deterioration experienced when McArthur Street was closed for upgrading in late 2017 and the detour traffic that was particularly high in bus numbers, overloaded the already aged and deteriorated Kimberly Street,\u201d Mr Goes said.<\/p>\n

He said the works on Kimberly was not originally planned for this financial year and was added to the annual road reconstruction program to address the unacceptable road conditions for a populated, high-use central city street.<\/p>\n

\u201cWorks included full pavement reconstruction, relocating the installation of the water main outside the road pavement, footpath upgrade with kerb and channeling to improve the road for traffic and pedestrians alike throughout this road.\u201d<\/p>\n

Mr Goes said Kimberly Street is now fully reconstructed with a new granular pavement strengthened with cement stabilization and surfaced with a membrane seal covered with 56mm of asphalt.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe FRA wishes to thank the road users for their patience and co-operation during these important works.\u201d<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, further inner city road improvements are also underway on Raojibhai Patel, Vishnu Deo, Marlow and Ellery Streets.<\/p>\n
