{"id":2927,"date":"2017-10-29T00:53:52","date_gmt":"2017-10-29T00:53:52","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.fijiroads.org\/?p=2927"},"modified":"2017-10-29T00:53:52","modified_gmt":"2017-10-29T00:53:52","slug":"fra-carry-major-road-upgrading-works-suva-monday","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.fijiroads.org\/index.php\/2017\/10\/29\/fra-carry-major-road-upgrading-works-suva-monday\/","title":{"rendered":"FRA TO CARRY OUT MORE MAJOR ROAD UPGRADING WORKS IN SUVA FROM MONDAY"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>29 October 2017<\/p>\n<p>Fiji Road Authority (FRA) will be carrying out major road upgrading works in Suva from tomorrow- Monday (October 30th). <\/p>\n<p>FRA General Manager Network Operations and Maintenance Aram Goes says they will be removing the badly deformed surface which has deteriorated due to old age and high vehicle use stresses on Borron Road and Lekutu Street.  The adjacent side roads of Naqasima Road and Grant Place will also be attended to as part of this upgrade.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe have adopted a Mill and Fill method which will require removing the existing pavement, clean and apply a membrane seal and then pave a fresh asphaltic concrete layer top as the finishing.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Mr Goes said these roads have lost its ability to be water proofed by conventional chip sealing and hence the inevitability of the formation of potholes.  The roads have been tested for strength with only isolated sections identified as requiring structural pavement repairs prior to the surfacing treatment.  <\/p>\n<p>\u201cThese weaker sections will be fully dug out and reconstructed prior to the new asphaltic concrete surface being applied.  Some of the other works include repairing footpaths, removing and replacing kerbs and channels, installing new signs and line marking.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAlthough much of these works will be carried out at night and do not restrict accessibility, motorists are requested to factor in extra travel time in their journey.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Once the road work is completed, Mr Goes said it would improve the level of safety and provide a smooth journey to the motorists, with more visible signage and road markings.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe FRA wishes to thank the public for their patience during these important road works.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>These works on Borron Road and Lekutu Street is expected to be completed by November 13th, weather permitting.
