{"id":2731,"date":"2017-10-21T23:04:13","date_gmt":"2017-10-21T23:04:13","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.fijiroads.org\/?p=2731"},"modified":"2017-10-21T23:04:13","modified_gmt":"2017-10-21T23:04:13","slug":"road-upgrade-project-improves-connectivity-eight-villages-lakeba-island","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.fijiroads.org\/index.php\/2017\/10\/21\/road-upgrade-project-improves-connectivity-eight-villages-lakeba-island\/","title":{"rendered":"ROAD UPGRADE PROJECT IMPROVES CONNECTIVITY FOR EIGHT VILLAGES ON LAKEBA ISLAND"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>22 October<\/strong><strong> 2017<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The recent construction of the Lakeba Island Road has improved connectivity for eight villages on Lakeba Island.<\/p>\n<p>Fiji Roads Authority (FRA) Programme Manager Capital Works Delivery Johari Abdullah says the main Circular Road links eight villages on the island which will improve the lives of close to 2000 people.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe FRA understands the importance of proper roads and its powerful impacts it has on the lives of people, especially in the rural areas,\u201d Mr Abdullah said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe island is made up of four important roads; the Circular Road, which is the main connecting route linking up eight villages, providing access to schools, health centres, the airport, jetty, farms and markets.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThen we have the Airport Access Road that links the main Circular Road to the Airport, the Jetty Road linking the main Circular Road to the Jetty head and the Biofuel Plant Access Road which links the main Circular Road to the Biofuel plant.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Mr Abdullah said some of the works included were shaping and trimming of existing subgrade, cross culvert installation, construction of headwalls, removal and construction of new bridge decks, drainage construction and seawall construction works.<\/p>\n<p>The project was carried out by FRA Engineer to Contract Mr Johari \u00a0Abdullah, Engineers Assistant Apisai Tuiloma and Rodrick Chand and our contractor Lomanitoba Company Limited.<\/p>\n<p>This project was under the Eastern Island Roads Upgrade project for maintenance and renewals of the existing roading network, and bridge repairs superstructure replacement, on Moala, Vanuabalavu, Lakeba and Koro Island.<\/p>\n<p>With the successful completion of Moala and Vanuabalavu, and now Lakeba, Koro Island is anticipated to be completed by December 2017.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Read Full Report: <\/strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.fijiroads.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/10\/ROAD-UPGRADE-PROJECT-IMPROVES-CONNECTIVITY-FOR-EIGHT-VILLAGES-ON-LAKEBA-ISLAND.pdf\"><strong>ROAD UPGRADE PROJECT IMPROVES CONNECTIVITY FOR EIGHT VILLAGES ON LAKEBA ISLAND<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>22 October 2017 &nbsp; The recent construction of the Lakeba Island Road has improved connectivity for eight villages on Lakeba Island.
