Fiji Roads Authority (FRA) is pleased to inform that the construction of the Tavualevu Bailey Bridge on Kings Road is completed and is now open to traffic.<\/p>\n

Confirming this, FRA Chief Executive Officer Jonathan Moore says the Tavualevu Bridge was one of the high priority bridges identified by the FRA engineers and has been temporarily replaced by a new 50 metres dual lane bailey bridge.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe FRA\u2019s main priority is to keep the major arterial roads, especially the Queens and Kings Roads open at all times and the new bailey bridge will not only be safer, but will also ensure shorter travel time,\u201d Mr Moore said.<\/p>\n

He said the realigned road approach and rock armor protected banks will provide a smooth and more efficient access.<\/p>\n

\u201cBailey bridges offer a low cost and it is an effective and robust bridging solution, that if well maintained will last for many years.\u201d<\/p>\n

Mr Moore said the new Bailey bridge has sufficient capacity to accommodate all legal loads.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe thank our contractor Fletcher Construction for their hard work and dedication in designing and constructing this bridge within six months.\u201d<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, the existing bridge will only be used for pedestrian access.<\/p>\n

Mr Moore has advised motorists to drive as per the posted speed limits and comply with the legal load limits.<\/p>\n
