The Fiji Roads Authority (FRA) is launching another road upgrading project in Central Suva with work starting on Gladstone Road from this evening.<\/p>\n

FRA GM Network Operations and Maintenance Aram Goes says that this road upgrading work forms part of the 2017\/18 Road Renewals Programme that is aimed at renewing the lifecycle of roads.<\/p>\n

Mr Goes adds that the upgrade also involves major water main construction work to replace the ageing infrastructure under Gladstone Road.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe joint collaboration between FRA and Water Authority of Fiji (WAF) will see many more inter-agency coordination efforts on road projects going into the future. This ensures that we fix the underlying infrastructure before we seal the road. It also protects the integrity and quality of our road infrastructure and minimises the need to dig up the road once it is done.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cOn Gladstone road the team will be laying and commissioning a new WAF water main and this work will be carried out mostly at night.\u201d<\/p>\n

Mr Goes says that the night works may result in intermittent road closures and asks for the public\u2019s understanding as the area will be under traffic control management with road closures bound to take place as and when required.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe public will see that a lot of road works are taking place at the moment and we are trying to seize the opportunity to get them out before the rainy season hits us in November. Therefore motorists please use alternative routes to get around if you do not want to encounter waiting time.\u201d<\/p>\n

The work that is happening on Gladstone Road ties in with the work happening along Queen Elizabeth Drive with sections of Denison Road and the remaining portion of Cakobau Road to be upgraded in the near future as well.<\/p>\n
