{"id":1933,"date":"2017-05-10T01:52:46","date_gmt":"2017-05-10T01:52:46","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.fijiroads.org\/?p=1933"},"modified":"2017-05-10T01:52:46","modified_gmt":"2017-05-10T01:52:46","slug":"labasa-bridge-maintenance-work-carried-crushing-season-begins","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.fijiroads.org\/index.php\/2017\/05\/10\/labasa-bridge-maintenance-work-carried-crushing-season-begins\/","title":{"rendered":"LABASA BRIDGE MAINTENANCE WORK HAD TO BE CARRIED OUT BEFORE CRUSHING SEASON BEGINS"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Maintenance on the Labasa Bridge had to be carried out before the sugarcane crushing season begins says Fiji Roads Authority Chief Executive Officer, John Hutchinson.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Mr Hutchinson adds that with school starting this week, the FRA engineers and their contractors are working to meet deadlines and have this bridge opened to two lanes of traffic by the 20<sup>th<\/sup> of May.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-medium wp-image-1935\" src=\"https:\/\/www.fijiroads.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/Image-1-Labasa-Bridge-Closure-Times-225x300.jpg\" alt=\"Image 1-Labasa Bridge Closure Times\" width=\"225\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.fijiroads.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/Image-1-Labasa-Bridge-Closure-Times-225x300.jpg 225w, https:\/\/www.fijiroads.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/Image-1-Labasa-Bridge-Closure-Times-56x75.jpg 56w, https:\/\/www.fijiroads.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/Image-1-Labasa-Bridge-Closure-Times.jpg 480w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width:767px) 225px, 225px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>\u201cOn Sunday 07<sup>th<\/sup> May, concrete was poured on one lane of the Labasa Bridge and curing time meant that a weight restriction had to be placed on the bridge and is expected to be lifted today.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHowever the same restriction will apply to the second lane after the pouring of concrete this Sunday the 14<sup>th<\/sup> of May. As a consequence the bridge will undergo weight restrictions from the 14<sup>th<\/sup> \u2013 17<sup>th<\/sup> of May.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Mr Hutchinson says that the Labasa Bridge is vital to the movement of goods and people in the area and the FRA is fully aware of this.\u00a0 He added that in addition to the bridge deck work; the strengthening work on the bridge beam is not visible to the public as this work is taking place beneath the bridge deck and that the maintenance crews were accessing the underside of the bridge by pontoons.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI ask that members of the public especially truck operators familiarise themselves with the weight restriction timetable to avoid disappointments\u201d<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-medium wp-image-1934\" src=\"https:\/\/www.fijiroads.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/Image-2-Labasa-bridge-after-pouring-concrete-1-300x169.jpg\" alt=\"Image 2 -
