{"id":1860,"date":"2017-04-06T21:45:33","date_gmt":"2017-04-06T21:45:33","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.fijiroads.org\/?p=1860"},"modified":"2017-04-06T21:45:33","modified_gmt":"2017-04-06T21:45:33","slug":"reconstruction-new-market-bridge-levuka-commence-next-week","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.fijiroads.org\/index.php\/2017\/04\/06\/reconstruction-new-market-bridge-levuka-commence-next-week\/","title":{"rendered":"RECONSTRUCTION OF NEW MARKET BRIDGE IN LEVUKA TO COMMENCE NEXT WEEK"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>7 April 2017<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The reconstruction work on the new Market Bridge in Levuka will commence from next week Monday (April 10).<\/p>\n<p>This was confirmed by the Fiji Roads Authority (FRA) Chief Executive Officer John Hutchinson.<\/p>\n<p>In the interim, motorists are advised to use the detour posted along Bobbis Lane, Bowling Green Road and Chapel Street.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe Fijian government is committed to protect and maintain Levuka- the World Heritage Site, hence the construction of new road infrastructure is vital and has been among the top priorities for the FRA.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>He said the original bridge was not safe for vehicle and pedestrian use due to the deteriorating condition of the bridge superstructure and required an immediate replacement.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe bridge is considered to be a heritage site and it will have the same features as the old bridge; a dual lane bridge with a single pedestrian walkway which will benefit close to 9000 people as the bridge is in the centre of the town.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Mr Hutchinson said the cost of the bridge is approx. $3m and is part of the Design and Construction of Six Short Bridges programme.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe FRA will work to keep disruptions to a minimum and we ask the public for their patience during the reconstruction period.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The new bridge is expected to be completed by December, weather permitting.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Read Full Report Here: <a href=\"https:\/\/www.fijiroads.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/04\/RECONSTRUCTION-OF-NEW-MARKET-BRIDGE-IN-LEVUKA-TO-COMMENCE-NEXT-WEEK-1.pdf\">RECONSTRUCTION OF NEW MARKET BRIDGE IN LEVUKA TO COMMENCE NEXT WEEK<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-1862\" src=\"https:\/\/www.fijiroads.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/04\/20170120_085446-1-300x169.jpg\" alt=\"20170120_085446\" width=\"300\" height=\"169\" \/><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>7 April 2017 The reconstruction work on the new Market Bridge in Levuka will commence from next week Monday (April 10).
