{"id":1644,"date":"2017-02-23T20:36:06","date_gmt":"2017-02-23T20:36:06","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.fijiroads.org\/?p=1644"},"modified":"2017-02-23T20:36:06","modified_gmt":"2017-02-23T20:36:06","slug":"bau-tikina-road-and-solutions-discussed-for-reopening-kings-road-at-kasavu","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.fijiroads.org\/index.php\/2017\/02\/23\/bau-tikina-road-and-solutions-discussed-for-reopening-kings-road-at-kasavu\/","title":{"rendered":"BAU TIKINA ROAD AND SOLUTIONS DISCUSSED FOR REOPENING KINGS ROAD AT KASAVU"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>24 February 2017<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The Fiji Roads Authority Board of Directors are reviewing two feasible options to restore access at Kasavu on Kings Road.<\/p>\n<p>FRA Chief Executive John Hutchinson says that these two feasible options for Kasavu can be delivered under six months.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOption 1 looks at the use of a single lane bailey bridge solution and if approved will take 2-3 months to install. This will permit heavy vehicles and buses to use the Kings Rd. This bridge solution will be single lane for buses, cars and trucks. It will be controlled by solar powered traffic lights. The FRA is completing the technical design and sketches as well as seeking prices. Whilst not ideal, it re-opens the Kings Rd to all traffic whilst the medium\/ long term solution is put in place.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOption 2\u00a0\u00a0 which is for a road detour has a lengthier turn-around time of 5-6 months. This allows an examination of the future of the road on its current alignment.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>On Bau Tikina Road, Mr Hutchinson reiterates that this road was opened up as an emergency bypass access road to provide relief for communities and travellers on Kings Road.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cFRA confirms that this access road is checked and maintained daily by the maintenance contractor and only vehicles up to 18 tonnes are allowed on this road.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHowever concerned citizens have reported to the Authority that heavy vehicles continue to access Bau Tikina Road and this is a serious concern for the FRA.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Mr Hutchinson also acknowledges that changing weather patterns and its impact on the road network following the five tropical depressions, TD04F, TD09F, TD10F, TD12F and TD14F over the last two months has caused significant impact on the road network.<\/p>\n<p>Members of the public are requested to contact Fiji Roads Authority on 5720 to lodge their concerns or seek feedback on road related matters.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Read Here: <a href=\"https:\/\/www.fijiroads.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/02\/BAU-TIKINA-ROAD-AND-SOLUTIONS-DISCUSSED-FOR-REOPENING-KINGS-ROAD-AT-KASAVU.pdf\">BAU TIKINA ROAD AND SOLUTIONS DISCUSSED FOR REOPENING KINGS ROAD AT KASAVU<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>24 February 2017 The Fiji Roads Authority Board of Directors are reviewing two feasible options to restore access at Kasavu on Kings Road.
