{"id":14388,"date":"2026-04-29T21:59:40","date_gmt":"2026-04-29T21:59:40","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.fijiroads.org\/?p=14388"},"modified":"2026-04-29T21:59:40","modified_gmt":"2026-04-29T21:59:40","slug":"major-infrastructure-partnership-to-strengthen-fijis-road-network","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.fijiroads.org\/index.php\/2026\/04\/29\/major-infrastructure-partnership-to-strengthen-fijis-road-network\/","title":{"rendered":"MAJOR INFRASTRUCTURE PARTNERSHIP TO STRENGTHEN FIJI\u2019S ROAD NETWORK"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>30th April, 2026<\/p>\n<p>Australia\u2019s National Transport Research Organisation (NTRO) has signed a landmark partnership with the Fiji Roads Authority (FRA) for an <em>\u2018Road Network Improvement Program\u2019<\/em> aimed at significantly improving the quality, resilience, and long-term performance of Fiji\u2019s road network.<\/p>\n<p>This strategic collaboration represents a major step in enhancing the condition and durability of critical road network infrastructure across Fiji, supporting economic growth, community connectivity, disaster preparedness and climate resilience.<\/p>\n<p>Under the partnership, the FRA and NTRO will work together around four key components:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Network Condition Assessment &amp; Baselining<\/li>\n<li>Asset Management Advisory &amp; System Development<\/li>\n<li>Materials Science &amp; Laboratory Advisory<\/li>\n<li>Capacity Building &amp; Knowledge Transfer<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>FRA Chief Executive Officer Apisai Ketenilagi said the partnership marks a transformative opportunity for Fiji\u2019s critical road infrastructure:<\/p>\n<p><em>\u2018This collaboration with NTRO will provide us with world-class technical expertise and tools to better understand, manage, and improve our road network. It will enable us to deliver safer, more reliable roads for all Fijians, while strengthening our resilience to climate impacts. It is a program that will not only strengthen Fiji\u2019s road network through evidence-based decision making but also see the transfer of skills and knowledge between our two nations.\u2019<\/em><\/p>\n<p>NTRO\u2019s Executive Director and leader of the \u2018NTRO-Pacific\u2019 team, Jason Sprott highlighted the importance of the \u2018co-designed\u2019 program:<\/p>\n<p><em>\u2018We are extremely proud to partner with the FRA team to deliver an exciting program of work.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>This partnership reflects a shared commitment between Fiji and Australia to sustainable infrastructure, so critical for the livelihoods of the Fijian population.
