\nThe traffic light at the Concave Drive junction along Queens Road at Namaka, Nadi are operational, but not a 100 percent following an accident on Christmas day.
\nIt has been alleged that the accident was caused by a drunk driver.
\nFiji Roads Authority Chief Executive Officer John Hutchinson says both the newly installed traffic light unit and the pole had been completely written off as a result of the accident.
\n\u201cFRA understands this accident was caused by a drunk driver and the level of damage is costly and will result in some delays in completing repairs.\u201d
\nMr Hutchinson said the arrow amber light and the pedestrian signal are working, but on automatic until replacement materials can be sourced.
\n\u201cWhilst we are investing millions of dollars on the road assets for the public to be able to travel safely, smoothly, it is sad to see that people are not following the road rules.\u201d
\nHe said the FRA is trying its best to fully restore it as quickly as possible, however, they will need to replace some components which need to be procured from Australia.
\n\u201cWe are appealing to the public to be please be vigilant as the traffic signal infrastructure is important to motorists and the general public alike as they provide guidance and help to prevent accidents.\u201d
\nMr Hutchinson said they have sought assistance of the Namaka Police Station Traffic Team to control the traffic during peak hours.
