The Rewa Bridge Roundabout in Nausori will be undergoing maintenance works from Sunday, 11th June.
Fiji Roads Authority (FRA) Chief Executive Officer John Hutchinson says that improving the roundabout intersection for ease of traffic thoroughfare will require removing the badly deformed surface which has deteriorated over the high stress of vehicles turning on this roundabout.
He adds that majority of the work will be carried out at night with the exception of Sundays’ since the traffic volume is expected to be low. Although these works do not restrict accessibility, motorists are requested to factor in extra travel time in their journey.
Mr Hutchinson adds that the FRA’s contractor has placed road signs to notify the road users about the road works as restricting motorists to single lane may be adopted to ensure public safety, movement of traffic and progress of the Mill and Fill operation.
The Mill and Fill method will require removing the existing pavement, clean and apply a seal and then pave a fresh asphaltic concrete layer top as the finishing.”
Once work is completed, Mr Hutchinson said the improved road will provide a smoother and safer journey to the motorists, with more visible signage and road markings.
“The FRA wishes to thank the public for their patience during these important road works.”
The total cost of the road works is $464,632.14 and all work is expected to be completed within a week, weather permitting.
