Fiji Roads Authority (FRA) has successfully completed rehabilitation works on various sections of the Kings Road.
FRA General Manager Network Operations and Maintenance Aram Goes says these sites was programmed in the 2017/2018 Road Renewals Programme for full pavement rehabilitation due to the deteriorating conditions of the existing pavement.
These sections of the Kings Road included Nausori Town to Verata Wailevu Village stretch and the Naimasimasi Village, Naiborebore Village through to Waidalice corridor. A total of 9.9km was upgraded upon completion of the rehabilitation works.
“Pavement investigation and testing was conducted prior to the road works for which the Contractor and FRA engineers came up with a pavement design which was implemented during the construction phase of these projects,” Mr Goes said.
He said works started towards the end of September, 2017 and took a little over five months to complete. The project was successfully carried out by FRA and its maintenance contractor Fulton Hogan Hiways JV.
“These rehabilitation works include the removal of high shoulder to prevent water from ponding on the road edge, clearing of existing drains, remove and replace existing seal and base material with imported crushed rock, stabilization of the existing pavement and surfacing which included a two coat chip seal, installation of roads humps along village frontages and asphalt surfacing for bus bay areas and major intersections.”
With the new and improved road surface, Mr Goes said the travelling public that frequently use the Nausori Town to Korovou Town corridor can now enjoy vastly improved travel time and a better and safer driving surface.
