Fiji Roads Authority (FRA) is trialling OTTA surfacing works at Bocalevu Primary School Frontage on Bocalevu Road in Labasa.
Bocalevu Road is located 7.212Km from Labasa Town and 1km on Bocalevu Road is Bocalevu Primary School.
FRA General Manager Network Operations and Maintenance Aram Goes says there is a high demand for treating dust nuisance of unsealed roads, particularly around schools.
“The Bocalevu Primary School is located along the roadside and dust is an everyday nuisance that students and staff have to endure.”
Mr Goes said the dust emitted from the road needs to be controlled to ensure a hygienic and conducive learning environment for the students.
“The OTTA surfacing works well to eliminate grading requirements and mitigate dust nuisance and is a cost effective treatment for alternative surfacing of low volume unsealed roads that require very little surface preparation, saving significant time and money.”
He said if the trial is successful further application of this OTTA surfacing will be considered on a case-by-case basis.
The total length of OTTA surfacing is 350m.
