LIGHT VEHICLES ONLY ALLOWED ACROSS SLIP SITE AT KASAVU ON KINGS ROAD

LIGHT VEHICLES ONLY ALLOWED ACROSS SLIP SIGHT AT KASAVU ON KINGS ROAD

19 December 2016

Fiji Roads Authority (FRA) is allowing light vehicles only on Kings Road at the Kasavu slip site until the weather clears up.

John Hutchinson, FRA Chief Executive Officer says that the site has been under 24 hour observation since yesterday and inspections this morning have identified that  FRA  needs to restrict movement across the road to protect the public.

“The slip has taken a great portion of the road and it isn’t wide enough to allow larger vehicles including heavy goods vehicles, buses and carriers through at the moment.”

“We need to maintain this set- up until the weather clears up and then only can we safely get our crews in to properly assess the damage and apply necessary repairs.”

Mr Hutchinson says that this situation may not go down well with those who planned to spend the festive season with relatives and that they are doing all they can to keep the network open without compromising safety.

In addition, as at 10:30am this morning, Kings Road at Rakiraki from the new Rakiraki Bridge to the Flying Prince Service Station is underwater and closed to all motorists.
