CARTING LOG DURING WET WEATHER AFFECTS NAVIDAMU ROAD IN LABASA

CARTING LOGS DURING WET WEATHER AFFECTS NAVIDAMU ROAD, LABASA

 27 FEBRUARY, 2018

Fiji Roads and its contractors are aware of the current road conditions on Navidamu Road in Labasa.  That has been caused by logging operators carting logs on these roads and worsening road conditions. FRA is now trying to restore emergency access for the buses.

Fiji Roads Authority Chief Executive, Jonathan Moore says that the matter has been reported to the Department of Forestry, as the logger has breached their Permit Conditions for carting during the wet weather.”

“In the long term we have major gravel layers programmed along with drainage works on approximately 10km of this 30km long route.  This is more likely than to start from August 2018 in readiness for the following wet season.”

Similar major Unsealed Road upgrading of 34km is currently underway between Nabouwalu and Kubalau to connect bus services through to Wailevu West Road. This 34km of gravel strengthening includes a total of 6km of sealing in front of schools, health centers and villages along this route, together with sealing of several steep inclines for improved traction.

Members of the public are requested to contact LTA, Fiji Police or FRA on 5720 if they see overloaded vehicles or carting loads on gravel roads during wet weather.
